Visions’s Fall Poetry Slam: Connecting People with Words by Jadelyn Villa and Paul Angel Perdomo

“Poets are the sense, philosophers the intelligence of humanity” - Samuel Beckett

Professor Kibler introducing the event

On Thursday, December 12th, from 1 - 3 pm, Visions Newspaper and the English Department of PCCC held a Fall Poetry Slam in the Hamilton Club’s first-floor parlor. Professor Amanda

Kibler volunteered to aid in hosting the event alongside Visions Editor-In-Chief Jadelyn Villa.

Poetry's purpose is to use language in an artistic manner and for the poets to express their emotions to engage in revoking deep feelings and reflection on oneself. Jadelyn expressed throughout the afternoon how pleased she was for the opportunity to connect with others through poetry, and despite a smaller turnout of about ten attendees, each one was immersed in the event. Multiple poets even went up to the

podium multiple times after seeking inspiration from others and many attendees were deeply moved by the performances.

After the live readings, the poets enjoyed appetizers and beverages in the parlor, which included meatballs, franks in a blanket, pizza bagels, and chicken wings. Soda, water, coffee, and tea were also offered as refreshments.

Visions Liason Lorraine Hicks from the English Department is in the process of creating participation certificates for all those who read poetry, both students and professors/staff.
