The sounds of the stadium were bright and bold, with each decibel vibrating the ears of
each attendee. Red stained the seats, and the lights dimmed slowly as a hue of crimson flooded the bland-colored ice.
Eventually, as quick as mice, the New Jersey Devils skated onto the ice with unimaginable speed. And as someone who's never watched a hockey game, it almost seemed like
a kind of wizardry that allowed them to manipulate their bodies on the frozen body of water.
I could only think about the bruises I would acquire if I were in a similar situation.
Everyone who came along from PCCC was able to indulge in the stadium food through
vouchers provided by CSE. Overall, it was a unifying experience, especially given the fact that
most of us had never watched a game of hockey before, so being able to do so alongside friends was exciting!
As unfortunate as it is, the New Jersey Devils lost the game, but the moments of tension
within the game kept it entertaining and lively the entire way through. Especially towards the
end, where the New Jersey Devils scored in the last minute and almost came back despite a convincing lead by the Winnipeg Jets.
We gave up a goal early in the game, but simply being able to retaliate kept us alive until they scored twice within a quarter. It was a special night for all die-hard Devils fans as one of their greats, John MacLean, was inducted into the Devils Ring of Honor.
The arena showed all his best highlights throughout his career, and he even gave a special acceptance speech. The other three members of the Devil's Ring of Honor attended, and overall, the ceremony was amazing, and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Another particularly interesting part of the engagement would be the bus ride to the
game, where SGA members used face paint to get everyone in the right spirit to cheer on
the New Jersey Devils. Some had red jewels across their faces, while others wore the logo on their cheeks. Regardless of what they chose, we all inevitably became fans and engaged with New Jersey's culture.
