On October 31st, SGA sponsored the “Monster Mash” Halloween event in the Panthers Den. This event surpassed any attendance expectations with over 110 students attending in the two-and-a-half-hour window. Through collaborating with the SSS and AESNJ clubs, the event provided students with a murder mystery, a Halloween-themed Quizizz, and a costume contest.
The murder mystery started the mash with an element of mystique with everyone attempting to figure out who the murderer was. The second event was the Halloween–themed Quizizz where students battled through answering questions regarding the movie and history aspects of Halloween. To cap off the night, a dozen students participated in the costume contest with the crowd cheering on their favorite costumes of the night. A variety of prizes were awarded to the winners of these events such as gift cards, a snack bouquet, and a boo basket consisting of a tumbler, plush panther, and a blanket.
With such an array of prizes it was no wonder students were cheering and roaring throughout
the event. While focusing on the main event, students were able to not only partake in the main events of the Monster Mash but also talk to each other and meet new people who appreciate the celebration as much. Despite some preconceived ideas that Halloween is a day best celebrated by kids, the success of this event demonstrated that Halloween can be celebrated and enjoyed by anyone, at any age. SGA hopes to collaborate with clubs next year to create this new Monster Mash tradition for years to come.
