The Digital Media And Culture Club is a community where movies, TV shows, and other videos (sometimes music videos) are loved by people who enjoy them. President Ashley Tirado who oversees the club brings in a list of videos ranging from new trailers of films to music videos that tell stories. Each of the videos contains a genre of films. Before it was shown, Ashley wanted everyone to introduce themselves so people could know their names at the meeting. While a small number of people attended the meeting, each of them was invested in the video material shown.

Each person talked about their favorite movies and how they enjoyed it. One college student liked the film “Akira” and talked about the amazing animation settings of the movie. Another enjoyed sci-fi like Star Wars and many more. After everyone got to know each other, the screening of the trailers started. During the presentation, Ashley put most in categories from horror, nonfiction, and romance respectively. Each one was followed up with a discussion on how the students felt about the trailers. For example, in the trailer for the movie “Juror #2” Ashley discussed the cleverness around the title of the film and others talked about the character’s motivation in the trailer. These trailers guided others to think more and opened their taste to new media genres.

Moving on, Ashley started putting on music videos for everyone to watch as they absorbed the visuals of music. Big artists popular among students were shown, like Bruno Mars and Ice

Spice. In the third music video, the band Gorillaz was shown and many spotted a character that they saw before when they were kids. The music video was for the song "Tranz," and someone noticed a character named Ace during the video. Ace is from a show called The Powerpuff Girls, and he is part of the Gangreen Gang in the series and now is part of the band Gorillaz. Others saw it as funny that, out of all of the cartoons, Ace was there jamming out with his new friends.

Students enjoyed learning from the videos and reacting to them, such as one called "Mesmerizer" by Satsuki featuring Kasane Teto and popular Vocaloid artist Hatsune Miku. While the music video seemed cute and friendly, the Japanese lyrics were disturbing and hiding under a cute facade. Ashley also added a few songs in the Indie music genre that had animation with a lot of hidden messages.

If you would like to join the club, their meetings are from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm on Tuesdays in M335. More members are always wanted and would help the club grow for future events!
