Vote: “to express a choice or preference by ballot or other approved means”
The 2024 New Jersey Ballot Bowl “is a statewide non-partisan voter registration and engagement competition led by and for students! This year Ballot Bowl 2024 will again count both pledges to vote and voter registrations as part of the competition.” (NJ.Gov)
This year, the Student Government Association sent three representatives, SGA Secretary
Chloe Neil, Senator Rashel Medina Lantigua, and Senator Conor Guzman accompanied by advisor and Ballot Bowl Kahoot champion, Dr. Ian Wolf.
Kicking off the event was a lively grand entrance of New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Taesha Way (also Acting Secretary of State) and various NJ college/university mascots Following Lt. Governor Way’s speech, the audience was then addressed by the William Paterson University President Richard Helldobbler and WPU Student Government Association President Teddy Lockhart. All of whom spoke about the importance of “getting out the vote.”
Additionally, we had the pleasure of listening to guest speakers: NY Giants Linebackers Bobby Okereke and Kayvon Thibodeaux who spoke about the “NFL Votes” initiative, launched in 2020 to increase voter turnout amongst both fans and players.
