“One, Big, Beautiful Bill” or a College Student's Nightmare? By Raynier Lora

Updated: 3 days ago

It has been a little over a year since the people of the United States elected Donald J. Trump as their president for the second time. Looking back, it has been a very eventful year with some shallow highs and very low lows. From the tariffs to ICE, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the legislation that our controversial leader tried to pass has gotten much attention.

However, one piece of legislation in particular seemed to have gone under the radar for some college students. More specifically, "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill" and how it disadvantages certain college students.

According to IRS.gov, "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act significantly affects federal taxes, credits, and deductions." To go into specifics, as part of the bill, some degrees that were considered professional degrees are no longer considered professional degrees.

Some of the fields excluded include social work and physical therapy, but more importantly, nursing and education. Which meant that the amount of money that these degrees can get from federal borrowing would now be about $20,500, which is $29,50 less than the $50,000 they would have previously gotten.
