Gems on Campus: Tips from Rashel Medina, SGA Senator/SPC Chair

Have you ever had extra time on campus in between classes and have looked for a place to spend that time in? I know I have. It's that awkward window where you're too early for the next lecture but too late to head home. Turns out, there are various good places on campus that students might not know about, which could be the perfect place for you to de-stress in between classes and have a good recharge. Like, seriously, quiet corners and spaces you might've overlooked. I'm talking about places where you can actually take a breath and forget about the stress for a minute.

Meditation Room:

Located in the basement of Hamilton Hall, the meditation room is a true hidden gem of PCCC. It offers a tranquil space to relax, meditate, and recharge before or after class. The space is small but cozy nonetheless and sets the perfect ambience for taking a moment for yourself.

The Courtyard/Patio:

The courtyard, visible from the main entrance, is a campus favorite, especially during Spring and summer. The perfect weather invites students to sit outdoors, enjoy fresh air, and relax between classes. The water fountain enhances the calming atmosphere, making it ideal for studying, chilling with friends, or simply unwinding.

Indoor Lounges:

Various lounges and seating areas throughout the college provide spaces to wait for classes. While some are busier than others, all offer opportunities for relaxation.

●       Academic Hall: On the second floor, a lounge is located in the hallway leading to the parking lot. On the third floor, near the President's office and STEM classrooms, another lounge is available. The most popular and crowded lounge is on the main hallway leading to Founders Hall and the bridge, just before the STEM department.

●       Founders Hall: A seating area in front of Public Safety offers a quieter space, especially outside of peak ID processing times.

Outdoor Seating Areas:

●       The seating area outside Public Safety is a peaceful spot to enjoy fresh air during spring and summer.

●       The seating areas in front of Hamilton Hall and near the gym and theater are ideal for brief relaxation when the weather is pleasant.

Fitness Center:

For those looking to exercise between classes, the fitness center is located in Founders Hall, adjacent to the gym. It's open Monday through Thursday, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Back of the Library:

While the library is well-known, many students are unaware of the quieter study spaces located in the back. And although the main entrance is currently closed these areas, which offer tables and chairs for focused work, can be accessed through the stairwell used to go to the parking lot. Instead of walking straight, however, you go down the stairs and can access the library that way. The library also offers free printing with a daily limit of 15 pages per student.
